Just Paws

Animal Assisted Therapy

"When I reached for a hand, I found your paw", Anon.

"When you pet a dog or listen to a cat purring thinking may subside for a moment and a space of stillness arises within you, a doorway into Being", Eckhart Tolle.

Our Story

I have always felt deeply connected with nature and animals. I clearly am not alone here - Animals, for all their patient silence, speak a universal language! In addition to the joy they bring, connection to animals reduces anxiety and helps individuals connect socially. Time in nature has been proven to foster many health benefits including lowering blood pressure, reducing stress and boosting the immune system. Since 2018, I have taken my therapy cat, Jaffa, into colleges during finals to help reduce stress levels of students and have been amazed by the turnout, willingly leaving the library the evening before key exams, to come and pet Jaffa. I incubate and hatch chicks every year at home, including when living in Manhattan (!), and offer chances for the community to handle the chicks and learn about the hatching process.

I offer holistic Animal Assisted sessions at our home in Sagaponack, New York. These can vary from the warmth of a cat joining us for a Reiki session, to being in the presence of a majestic horse for some equine therapy (sure, that's hooves not paws) or even a period of mindfulness and meditation whilst our chickens interact as a flock around you. I love guiding the interaction of children with our different pets, for some it is the first time they have been close to some of these species of animal, and have long marvelled at how barriers of adults drop when animals are present. I have incubated and hatched chickens for over a decade, with sessions customised for children, and can also arrange sessions situated on the local Hamptons beaches with our dogs.

Meet our herd below and see if any of resonate for an Animal Assisted session. Happy to customise a series to cater to specific circumstances, please reach out to discuss further.

A quick note - Our animals, are happy, healthy and treated as beloved pets first and foremost.
